Launching #99Parks!

What a fun day at Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center for the launch of Travel Iowa’s #99Parks! Shelly Johnson and I had a great time at the event, and even more fun helping to develop the activities, materials and backpacks for the Challenge.

The Iowa Department of Tourism is challenging Iowa families to visit one park in each of Iowa’s 99 counties this year! Each county chose one  county park to feature in this state-sponsored project. So 99 Iowa Counties = 99 Parks! Download the checklist and Take the challenge! How much of Iowa have you really seen? I now have a long list of parks to visit this summer!

99 Counties LaunchShelly and I really had fun at the launch party at Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center near Sioux City! The park is gorgeous; we got to go on a guided hike to the creative nature playscape, sample tasty Iowa trail mix, and even participated in  the press conference.

Press Conference

At the press conference we talked about how our Next Step team helped create the family- and educator-friendly materials. Wereally had a good time developing games, recipes, scavenger hunts, and other fun stuff to do in Iowa’s parks. Download them for free! One grateful teacher and parent told us, “Thanks – I now have my ‘Momming Curriculum’ for the summer!”
