Develop
My staff at Iowa State University Extension complained that we never did the same program the same way two years in a row. I was proud of that; I believe there’s always room for improvement. I get excited about learning new ways of doing things and new things to do. That’s what development is all about.
Some of my favorite “developing” experiences are…
- Working with several central Iowa school districts to instill more active time for kids into their Physical Education programs through federally funded PEP Grants. It was especially fun to help them bring adventure education to their students.
- Helping Sandra, mid-way through her 50′s, develop a resume that showcased the experience, strengths and skills she had developed as a homemaker and mother. She finally got the job of her dreams!
- Working with incoming ISU MBA students to get acquainted and establish patterns for supporting each other during their difficult studies. We helped them develop strong communication channels and challenged them on campus and on the low and high courses at the Adventure Learning Center.
